Welcome to Cherokee, North Carolina.
Cherokee is a town in Swain County, North Carolina, USA. It is the headquarters for the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians. It is also a tourist-oriented area, located at the entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the site of a Harrah's Cherokee casino.

Cherokee is located in western North Carolina on the Oconaluftee River and the Qualla Reservation, and on U.S. Highway 441. An outdoor drama depicting the Eastern Band's story, Unto These Hills, is presented annually during the tourist season. The population is about 1/3 Cherokee.
The town is known for its stereotypical representation of Native Americans. Men dressed as "chiefs" in long war bonnetts and buckskins either stand or sit in tipis on the corner and charge up to $5 for a photograph. The town also boasts shops which sell such wares as tomahawks, war bonnetts, dream catchers and other various items which pertain little to the Cherokee heritage.
The Cherokee Botanical Garden and Nature Trail is a botanical garden and nature trail located beside the Oconaluftee Indian Village, off U.S. Route 441 in Cherokee, North Carolina. The garden displays more than 150 species of plants native to the Great Smoky Mountains, with an herb garden and 0.5 miles of walking trail through a mixed pine and hardwood forest along the slopes of Mount Noble.
The Oconaluftee Indian Village is a replica of an 18th century eastern Cherokee community located in Cherokee, North Carolina, USA.
This "living museum" is operated by the Cherokee Historical Association. Guides take visitors through the village explaining the history and culture to fht Cherokee and also demonstrate the making of such items as arrowheads, and baskets, blowguns.
